GREEN SCHOOL ENERGY EXPO
The Green School Committee held an Energy Expo on Tuesday 11th February 2020. The purpose of the exhibition was to showcase the work done by the committee over the last two years and to give classes the opportunity to view each other’s work.
Many curricular areas were covered. 1st class pupils conducted a science experiment to show that energy is transferred rather than created. There was a time machine so pupils could travel back in history to the 1700s to meet some famous scientists and learn how electricity was discovered. 6th class pupils researched renewable and non-renewable electricity.
They also looked at our homes and then designed a more energy efficient green home. 4th class conducted an experiment to explain how Climate Change occurs.
3rd and 4th class made the most amazing things from recycled materials. They made robots, egg cups, a germination tray, bird feeders, toys, games and the list goes on. They also designed a display to highlight ways to conserve energy and reduce CO2 emissions. What bright sparks!
The Green School Committee has worked tirelessly for the last two years. They are a great team with wonderful ideas and ideals. Their mission to reduce the use of electricity in the school has paid off with a 5% reduction in usage.
Jim Callery from Wicklow County Council visited the exhibition to assess us for our 7th Green Flag. He was very impressed with the pupils of Scoil Chaoimhín Naofa, so fingers crossed for good news in May.
Many thanks to the Hollywood Tidy Towns’ committee members who visited our exhibition. We appreciate their continued support.
