HOLLYWOOD BOOK DAY
On Thursday 11th April pupils and teachers celebrated Book Day. The purpose of this day was to promote a love of reading. Some pupils dressed up as their favourite book character and others read excerpts to their classmates. Some of the senior classes read to the junior pupils. Teachers and pupils decorated their classroom doors as book covers. Pupils swapped books.
Every day throughout the year pupils have DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time. Reading a variety of genre develops a child's vocabulary and imagination. This in turn helps them to be confident and competent when writing. We would encourage parents to read to and with their children. The staff in Blessington Library are very helpful. They can source most books and there are lots of exciting workshops happening right throughout the year.
