Ceremony of Light
Forty two fifth and sixth class students, who are receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation in April, took part in a pre-Confirmation ceremony on January 29th 2020.
For this special Ceremony of Light, the church was beautifully decorated with over 300 tea lights adding to the atmosphere of the ceremony. It is an important event in preparing the children for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
At the children’s Baptism, parents lit a Baptismal candle from the Paschal candle, symbolising their commitment to pass on their faith. In the same way, at the Ceremony of Light, parents once again lit their child’s Baptismal candle from the Paschal candle and presented it to their child. In doing so, parents promise to help and support their child, to live out their promise and call of their Confirmation. They are agreeing together with their child, to keep the light of faith burning in all of their lives.
In preparation for the ceremony, the children signed their pledges regarding alcohol, and promised to steer away from drugs.
It was a lovely evening for both pupils and parents.
